Helping others overcome Anxiety

Anxiety is a fact of life, not a flaw. Everyone gets anxious occasionally, because anxiety helps us to see potential threats and keeps us on alert. It’s actually useful, at times, to think about what could go wrong. However, sometimes people get into patterns of managing anxiety that create problems for them. These patterns reduce their anxiety temporarily, but increase it over the long term. This workshop is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to manage anxiety more effectively.

This Workshop is for you if:

  • You or your friends are dealing with fear, worry, or anxiety.

  • You are a helper in your community and want to increase your skills.

  • You want to learn skills to minimize the effects of anxiety.

  • Anxiety is interfering with your or your colleague’s productivity.

  • You have teenagers you’d like to help in this area.

  • You want to help a friend who isn't sleeping well, is having trouble concentrating, or struggles to experience peace deep down.

you will leave ready to:

  1. Recognize common thoughts and behaviors that fuel anxiety and avoidance.

  2. Practice five evidence-based tools that help people manage anxiety effectively.

  3. Practice explaining how anxiety is triggered and what keeps it activated.

  4. Develop a personal plan for using these new skills with others.

  5. Help others make lasting changes that reduce their fear and worry.

  6. Determine which tools are effective for different types of anxiety challenges.

what to expect:

This workshop uses presentations by the facilitators, small group discussions, video demonstrations, and individual practice to help you learn the tools needed to grow your confidence that there is hope for anxiety.

On day one, you will complete an assessment of your own anxiety, as practice for helping others, and you will be introduced to and practice some essential anxiety-reducing tools. On day two, you will gain a greater understanding of what fuels anxiety and, again, have opportunities to practice additional strategies that effectively lower stress. On day three, you will grow your awareness and ability to respond meaningfully to common problems people have with anxiety, such as insomnia or panic, and you will complete a personalized plan for growing your confidence in helping yourself and others in managing anxiety and stress.
